The Lodge meets in central Oxford on two Saturdays in each University term (six times per year in total), with meetings commencing at 4:15 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. depending on the programme of work to be undertaken. Two ceremonies are usually worked, each with multiple candidates (for practical reasons, normally not more than eight), and with a short break between the ceremonies. The second ceremony of the evening normally starts at approximately 5:45 p.m., and the Lodge is closed at around 7:00 p.m.
The Lodge meets in evening dress. Many members of the Lodge wear white tie, and visitors are welcome to do so; however, black tie (dinner jacket and black bow tie) is also perfectly acceptable. The uniform for Officers of the Lodge is formal court dress (as worn by former member, Oscar Wilde, in the picture). Provincial and Grand Officers always wear undress regalia in the Lodge. A charitable collection is made at dinner, and the Tyler's Toast is usually by 9:45 p.m.
If you are suitably qualified and wish to visit the Lodge, please contact the Secretary two to three weeks before the meeting you wish to attend.
Please note that our meeting place does not have any car parking spaces for use by the Lodge. By far the best options are to park in town (for example at the Westgate), or to make use of the Park and Ride, or to come by public transport. Our meeting venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and on-street parking is available nearby for blue badge holders.
Rehearsals for Lodge officers and other interested members are held on the Saturday preceding the Lodge meeting.
